Not Just for Light

The main use of these objects is the traditional lighting on the eve of the Sabbath and Holidays. One of the distinctive signs of a Jewish Sabbath and Holiday is the lighting of the candles. The lighting of the candles is mostly done by the women. In Ashkenazic tradition, the mother alone lights the candles. In Sephardic tradition, the daughters each light their own candles as well. A special blessing is recited over this act - ''...blessed art thou who sanctified us and commanded us to light the candles of the Shabbat/Holiday.''

Our wide range of silver candle holders includes some glamorous designs. These include a beautiful Jerusalem skyline decoration, a unique flower shape, a gorgeous enamel adornment, a fantastic hammered texture, a great octagonal shape, a delicate bead set, an amazing filigree design and much more.

The Tradition of Candle Lighting

There are many traditions as to the number of candles which are lit. Most women light 2 candles - one for ''Shamor'' - ''keep the Sabbath'', and one for ''Zahor'' - remember the Sabbath, which are the two ways of observing the Jewish Sabbath. Some women light a candle for every member of the family. According to the Kabbalah, 7 candles are to be lit. Our great products are perfect for those many families who light 2 candles.

Because candle lightling is a special Mitzvah for women, silver candle holders also make a great Bat Mitzvah gift. This is why you may find some of these candle holders in the Bat Mitzvah jewelry category too.

It is believed that the Shabbat candles add light to the home and piece to the house. There is no better way of keeping this wonderful tradition than by lighting your candles in one of our fabulous silver candle holders.
