Why do we use Washing Cups?
In Judaism, there is a special act of washing the hands at different times during the day. Perhaps the best known time is before eating bread. This is almost a family ceremony on Shabbat and holidays, where the whole family gathers around the sink and each member takes his turn at washing the hands.
Other times to wash the hands are when a person wakes up – to wash off the bad spirits of the night, when one exits a bathroom, when one exits a cemetery and more. One fills the washing cups, then pours water over his hands, alternating left and right three times. Then a special blessing is recited and the hands are wiped dry.
Purchasing a fancy washing cup such as the ones shown here, as oppose to a regular plastic one, can upgrade your washing experience. It is especially suitable for Shabbat and holiday meals, where many Judaica items are used, such as silver Kiddush cups and silver cutting knives. Not only seeing such amazing washing cups but actually using them truly gives the feeling of being the children of the King, the one Almighty G-d.
