This rare coin is from the times of the Bar Kokhba revolts in Jerusalem—a band of Jewish rebels led by Shimon Bar Kokhba fought for the redemption and freedom of Jerusalem from under Roman rule. They minted their own secret coins that they inscribed with phrases such as “Year One of the Redemption of Israel!”
